Schools for Adults

So the other day, I was bringing Morgan to the doctor for a quick check-up with Aria in tow. Here is the conversation we had: Aria: Mom, you have to really watch the road when you drive, huh? Me: Yup....but don't worry, I went to school to learn how to drive, and I've been doing it for a long time. I know what I'm doing. Aria (after a few moments of pondering): Whoa....I didn't know adults went to school! Me: Well, yeah, they call them colleges...you go to study things. Like me, I went for awhile to learn about ocean animals and dolphins, because they're my favorite. Aria: I want to go to school when I'm an adult! I'm going to learn about unicorns because they're my favorite! *after a few more moments of thinking* Aria: Wait, I change my mind. I'm going to college to learn to be a mom like YOU! That's what I want my job to be. I want to be a mom like you, mommy!

You've Gotta Be Kidding Me!

Little bit of news for you 'followers'....in case you didn't know, we had daughter #2 on April 25th. A beautiful, healthy little girl named Morgan. Who someday I'm sure will come up with her own set of lines much like her sister.

It's a double-whammy kinda day. These both happened yesterday, but are too funny to forget...

Scene 1:
We're in the car. Mommy wants a Dunkin' Donuts iced coffee without feeling guilty cuz I've now given birth to little one #2 & can drink away all I want, so we go through the drive-thru. Aria asks for munchkins, so we get the standard 3 & hand her the little baggie for a treat.

She's finished all 3 when she announces, "There's no crumbs in here. You've gotta be kidding me!"

Scene 2:
Aria trips over one of the new baby's little resting seats. I run over to her & ask her if she's ok. Without missing a beat, she looks at the seat & goes, 'Stupid chair!' For some reason, just her tone & context killed me.

You want a what?

Yesterday after work, we get home & Aria announces what she wants for dinner:

Aria: "Hey Mom....can I have a jelly bean & butter sandwhich for dinner?"

Me: "Uh....wait, what?"

Turns out....pb & j is what she was asking for.

Relating

After a particularly trying afternoon of locking ourselves out of our house, forgetting my debit card at home & realizing this halfway to Walmart, & running into stupid people just in the parking lot alone in said Walmart, I was pretty tense in the car & sounding like Cosby with my, "What the filth, well, I'll filth, filth, filth."

So very innocently, Aria from her rocketseat goes, "Hey Mom, what's wrong?"

To which I calmly reply, "Sorry honey, Mommy's kind of just freaking our right now. I've had some bad luck this afternoon & sometimes I just freak out."

She laughs at this, & I say, "Aww, thanks alot, laughing at me over my freakout."

Very wisely & seriously, she launches into this: "Well, Mom, at school one time, I bumped my finger pretty hard & it hurt SOOOOooo bad. And Keira laughed at me! And I was like, 'Why are you laughing at me? That's not nice.' But she just kept laughing."

Stunned silence from me for a moment. Then I said, "Wow, you're so wise."

Aria: "I know."

Dramatic Groundhog!

So I walk into the daycare, excited as usual to pick up my love & see what she's come up with today. And as usual, she doesn't disappoint. She's looking busy, playing with a Little People farm set, & I get on my knees to her level & greet her with a, "Hi, Love."

She turns to look at me & says real serious, "Hi Mom. You won't believe it. Today we talked about groundhogs. Did you know if the groundhog doesn't see his shadow, it will NEVER be spring?!"

Concerns of a 3 year old...first world problems, y'all.

I call your bluff, kid.

It's been too long since my last post, but I figure I just have to get into this again. Aria is now that perfect age of 3.5 where there are things coming out of her mouth that I just have to do a double-take when I hear.

Like tonight, I let her play with my 'candle' (Kindle to us normal folk). She was playing Angry Birds while I was filling up her tub & I kept warning her that she only had a few minutes left. So the tub was full, I shut it off, asked her to hand me the Kindle & waited for the meltdown. Sure enough, it came when I had to all but tear it out of her little hands.

Next came one of the funniest things I've heard come out of her. In that little high pitch voice, she announces: "FINE!! Then I'm leaving this house & I'm not coming back!"

To which I reply, "Ok....well, I'm going to miss you lots. Can you make sure to call me if you need anything?"

*hesitation for a moment*

Aria: "Hey Mom, do you like the Beauty & the Beast movie?"

BAHAHHAA!! Mom: 1, Aria: 0

I gloat, but we all know this lead can't last very long...

Happy 4th!

Last night, we took Aria to her first fireworks show! She danced, sang, & laughed so much.

Her reaction to the fireworks in the sky?

"OH NO!!! Momma! The sky is broken!"

Love. :)   Happy Birthday America!! Thanks for being the absolutely most wonderful place for a little one like mine to grow up. I cry at the thought that there are so many moms out there in other countries that fear for their childrens' lives & freedoms on a daily basis, yet my biggest fear for my little girl is whether she's happy, because I know she'll be safe, have rights, & can go anywhere she wants in life. I'd say we're pretty damn lucky. I'm thankful every day for this wonderful country!
